In an area that was once home to many small shipyards<\/strong>, the cradle of the nautical industry, Museum ‘t Kromhout is the only surviving evidence of shipbuilding in Amsterdam and its economic glory into the twentieth century.<\/p>

Shipyard ‘t Kromhout was founded 150 years ago during the “Industrial Revolution”. Until \u00b11906 the legendary Kromhout engines were built here. After that date the growing production moved to big halls in the northern part of Amsterdam. The Westhal is still in use as a shipyard. In the impressive Oosthal you will find a fascinating presentation of the history and the historic, still working Kromhout engines that have been made here since 1895.<\/p>

Engines running on Tuesdays<\/strong>. The maintenance and restoration process of the engines can be followed closely. Our volunteers are always ready to answer questions and explain the history and technology of internal combustion engines.<\/p>
